Round Table in Turkiye in the frame of the VET4GSEB project

The Round Table in Bursa, Turkiye, which was organized by SUEDAS, took place on 27th may 2023 in the frame of the project VET4GSEB. This event was attended by representatives from Piri Reis University, Bursa Governorship energy management unit, Ege University Solar Energy Institute, Public energy management association, Energy employers’ union, Construction Contractors and Industrialists Businessmen Association, Bursa Technical University, Chamber of Installation Engineers Bursa Branch, Directorate of National Education Renewable Energy program managers, Uludag Electricity Distribution Company (UEDAS), Natural Gas Energy and Mechanical Engineers and Industrialists Businessmen Association.

After the opening remark, Association President of the Sustainable Development and Environment Association and the Vice Rector of Piri Reis University Prof.Dr. Mehmet Ziya Söğüt stated that the employment needs for the applicability of PV technologies in smart buildings are increasing day by day.

Moreover he cited: “The main purpose of the project is to develop tools that will enable VET providers to update their training practices and programs by providing tailored solutions, training materials, case studies to meet the skills needs of the labor market in the construction and PV sector. Training of 78 trainers from five project partner countries will be carried out, and nearly 300 people, including our country, will be subjected to certified training.”

A discussion will the participants followed the event to highlight the needs and the situation in Turkiye on green and smart electricity in buildings.

Some of the participants including Ege University Solar Energy Institute Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Koray Ülgen explained the importance of the project in this context.

Mr. Levent Yazici from Bursa Governorship Energy Manager took the floor explaining about the exemplary practices made in this regard with the Provincial Energy Management Unit and the needs in this sector.  

Deputy Chairman of the Energy Employers’ Union, Dr. Mustafa Uysal emphasized  that the roles in the energy market are changing rapidly, that Turkiye, which aims to be a self-sufficient country, has made important breakthroughs in renewable energy, and that the project can make significant contributions to the training of trained manpower in this context.

Furthemore, Mr.Alptekin Şahintürk, Chairman of the Board of the Natural Gas Energy Mechanical Engineering Industrialists Businessmen Association (DEMSİAD) stated that there are important problems in meeting the demands for intermediate staff according to the requirements of the legislation and that the sector is a need in this context.

Mr. Sedat Vatandas, Secretary General of the Sustainable Development and Environment Association presented the results of the survey, which was developed within the framework of the project activities and obtained with the participation of the sector stakeholders, and focused on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats determined by the SWOT analysis on the sectorial competencies developed with the support of the participants. Prof.Dr. Mehmet Ziya Söğüt stated that the outputs obtained contain important results for the guidebook and training program to be developed in the frame of the project.  In conclusion, Prof. dr. Mehmet Ziya Söğüt noted: “One of the most important problems we face today is the development of competencies and competencies depending on the developing technology and the project is to create competent manpower in this field. The project aims to fill this deficiency.”
