People in Focus and National Chamber of Crafts Albania organized the round table in the frame of the project VET4GSEB on 30th May 2023. The event was followed in situ and online.
The representatives of Institute of GeoSciences, Public Vocational Education Centres, Harry Fultz Vocational Training Centre, Electrical Companies, NGOs, Students and Lawyers took part in the round table.
It started with a welcoming address from Mrs. Armelia Barçi, Executive Director of People in Focus and Mrs. Anduela Simaku, from National Chamber of Crafts. The participant took the floor as well to present themselves and the entities they represented. They empathized the importance of such activities to underlie the challenges this sector face and the need for up-skilling of technicians.
The requirements of the EU and the National Legislation for EE and RES in buildings followed the agenda of the activity. Most importantly were the discussions on challenges faced by companies and technicians in the labor market. Also, the representatives of vocational education centres emphasized their demands in the sector.
During the round table, the participants gave their opinion on the needs that Albania is facing currently on green and smart electricity in buildings.
They stressed the following gaps and the steps to be undertaken to improve the sector:
- The government should help the sector by subsidized
- The law and regulation in Albania on RES in buildings are quit new and some of them are not in act yet.
- Longer duration of vocational trainings
- Updated and upgraded Labs for different systems
- Companies do not support technicians with online or in person trainings for further development.
- Many companies lack on information where to find the trainings and many of them do not find them essential
- Companies are facing lack of technicians
- The need for soft skills of technicians
