Round table in Georgia in the frame of the VET4GSEB project

The round table in Tbilisi, Georgia was organized by EEC Georgia. The event in the frame of VET4GSEB project took place on 19th May 2023 in situ and online.  Representatives from Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Policy and Sustainable Development Department, Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Skills Agency Georgia, Georgian Technical University, Akaki Tsereteli State University, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Construction College “CONSTRUCT2”, private companies working in RES field and consultants attended this event.

The round table started with a welcoming remark from Mr. George Abulashvili, Director of Energy Efficiency Centre Georgia (EECG). Furthermore, a welcoming remark underlying the importance for the Georgian Industry of projects related to up-skilling of technicians and engineers was given by Mr.Omar Tsereteli, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development (MoESD), Deputy Head of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Policy and Sustainable Development Department, Ms. Lali Khuntsaria, Georgian Technical University (GTU), Deputy Dean, Power Engineering Faculty and Ms. Nino Khachidze, Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Skills Agency Georgia.

The round table was followed by the below mentioned topics:

  • The requirements of the EU and the National Legislation for EE and RES in buildings
  • Enforcement from July 1,2023 “Minimal requirements for energy efficiency of buildings adopted in 2021. The adoption of the act will facilitate the implementation of energy efficiency measures within buildings, as newly built buildings must adhere to minimal requirements to be allowed to enter exploitation.
  • Training and certification programs of installers of renewable energy devices elaborated in accordance with the Memorandum of cooperation concluded by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, German International Cooperation (GIZ), the Energy Development Fund

The highlight of the activity was the presentation of the conducted survey results. The discussion succeeding emphasized the needs in Georgia as below:  

  • The quality of the current PV installations in Georgia calls for improvements in installation and maintenance of these systems;
  • The technical staff for PV installations in Georgia needs further on-jobs training and certification; importance of having cadre of qualified trainers;
  • VET institutions require upgrading and improving the training facilities and organization of practical sessions on sites.
